Borussia Dortmund to win at Besiktas @ 3/5

Besiktas failed to make it through the qualifying rounds in the Europa League last season so the step up to the group stage of the Champions League will be tough. They have made an impressive start to the defence of their Turkish title with 10 points from four matches and have not conceded a goal but they are yet to come up against a team with Dortmund’s firepower. Marco Rose’s side have looked shaky at the back at times in the Bundesliga this season but can get off to a winning start in Group C.

Shakhtar Donetsk to win at Sheriff @ 20/23

Sheriff are the first team from Moldova to qualify for the Champions League group stage after getting past Dinamo Zagreb in the final round of qualifying. This will be an historic occasion regardless of the result but we expect the experience of Shakhtar to give them the edge and the visitors can spoil the party as the next of our Champions League predictions.

Atletico Madrid to beat Porto @ 8/13

Atletico pipped Real Madrid and Barcelona to the Spanish title last season and look even stronger this time around after the latter’s financial problems saw Antoine Griezmann return on loan. They have made a solid start to their title defence and only an inferior goal difference to Real and Valencia is keeping them off top spot. Porto are no pushovers and reached the quarter-finals last season but Atletico have the edge in quality as well as home advantage.

Liverpool to beat AC Milan @ 5/11

Liverpool are in a tough group along with Atletico and Porto so will be determined to get off to a winning start against Milan, who they have met in two finals this century. The absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a blow for the Italian giants and Liverpool are getting back to their best following the return of Virgil van Dijk. They have only conceded one Premier League goal in their opening four matches and another solid defensive display can lay the foundations for a home win.

Real Madrid to win at Inter Milan @ 9/5

Real Madrid did the double over Inter in the group stage of the Champions League last season so the Italian champions will not be relishing being paired with them again. Inter’s squad looks weaker than the one which ended Juventus’ dominance of Serie A, with Romelu Lukaku the most notable departure. The goals have been flowing for Real since Carlo Ancelotti returned to take charge and they should have the firepower to claim an away win as the last of our Champions League predictions.
