Brentford to beat Oldham @ 1/5
The Bees should be buzzing after Saturday’s 2-0 Premier League win at Wolves gave them a very healthy eight points from five top-flight fixtures since securing promotion. Thomas Frank’s side had to come from behind to beat Forest Green 3-1 in the last round of this competition, but Rovers are top of League Two, whereas Oldham are bottom of that division with only four points from eight outings.
Burnley to beat Rochdale @ 3/10
Sean Dyche fielded a decent team when the Clarets edged out Newcastle on penalties in round two and could see this as a chance to secure a morale-boosting first success of the season. Burnley reached the fourth round last term before running into Manchester City and a victory here would be a welcome respite from their early Premier League problems. Rochdale are in fair form at their own level but this is a tough test.
Watford to beat Stoke @ 19/20
Stoke got off to a flying start in the Championship this term but being held to a draw at home by Barnsley and then tasting defeat at crisis club Derby may just force Michael O’Neill to feel the time has come to give his main men a rest. Watford will also make changes to the side which enjoyed an excellent 3-1 win at Norwich over the weekend but do have some useful fringe players ready to step in and stake a claim for more game time in the top flight.
Everton to win at QPR @ 4/5
Rafael Benitez will want to see an immediate response from Everton following their second-half collapse in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Aston Villa. The Spaniard gave players such as Tom Davies, Mason Holgate and Alex Iwobi a run-out in the last round at Huddersfield and could also call on Andre Gomes, Salomon Rondon and injury-prone £25million midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin for the trip to Loftus Road.
Southampton to win at Sheff Utd @ 11/10
Saints have suffered mixed fortunes in this competition since narrowly losing out to Manchester United in the 2017 final but Ralph Hasenhuttl may just be eyeing a good run this season, judged on last month’s spectacular 8-0 romp at Newport, where Mohamed Elyounoussi hit a hat-trick. Southampton certainly seemed fresh enough during Saturday’s fine Premier League draw away to Manchester City and are worth following in our football accumulator tips.
